Handwriting

(Occupational Therapy) Handwriting is a complex task used throughout the lifespan. Writing requires fine motor skills, visual motor skills, attention, sensory processing, efficient posture and set up of materials, visual memory, bilateral coordination, and visual processing skills. Occupational therapists address handwriting using direct teaching of the skill, intervention to address underlying deficits, adaptations or modifications of tools and activity demands, or alternative forms for written expression (i.e., voice to text into a computer).
