Tech Team Spotlight - Bailey Morgan

We’d like to turn the spotlight on Bailey Morgan, M.A., CCC-SLP! Bailey does Sales and Marketing for us and is an expert on our teletherapy platform. In fact, you may have had a chance to meet Bailey in one of our demos. She is the ringmaster demoing our teletherapy platform to other therapists. Although Bailey came to us with Sales & Marketing experience, in addition to her CCC’s, this is her first technical job. She can attest that a lot of work goes into making technology easy to use.

Where are you from and where do you live now?

I live in Astoria, NYC but am from Long Island, New York.

Tell us a little about what you did before joining the Ambiki team!

I have worked as a Day Habilitation Counselor for adults with special needs, a Recreation Leader at a nursing facility, a Field Marketing Manager and Area Sales Manager for a kombucha company, and as a speech-language pathologist in acute, home, and long-term care.

What led you to become a therapist?

I always wanted to work in healthcare, but I also always wanted to be a Spanish teacher. When I found out there was a career that had medicine tied with speech & language, I knew becoming an SLP was the right thing for me.

Where did you go to school and what did you study?

I went to Stony Brook University and St. John’s University. I was pre-medicine for 3.5 years and then switched to Linguistics right before I graduated with my Bachelor’s. In undergrad, I was having such a tough time in chem and the thought of med school was becoming daunting. My Master’s was in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Speech Pathology.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love going to house music clubs and I like to DJ. I also like racing cars (or anything fast!). I live in NYC, so a lot of my money goes to brunch and nightlife!

How long have you been a part of Ambiki? What do you do?

Almost one year now 😊 (I joined in November 2021). I lead the sales and marketing efforts and serve as a manager for the teletherapy platform.

How do you hope to improve the field with Ambiki?

When I started working with Ambiki, I was hoping to be part of something that helps take the documentation burden off SLPs. Our productivity standards and low pay make it incredibly easy for us to burn out. Now that I have been part of Ambiki for a year, I want to empower therapists to feel more confident using technology. It can help make our jobs and, more importantly, our lives easier.

Looking at other occupations, many have top-notch tech solutions to help make everything run more smoothly and take the burden off the individual. Unfortunately, speech pathologists and rehabilitation professionals, in general, are often forgotten when compared to other fields or even doctors or P.A.s. I now look at technology as a friend, not a foe, and I want others to feel the same.

What do you love most about Ambiki?

What I like most about working with the Ambiki team is the trust and faith the developers give the clinicians regarding our clinical knowledge and judgment. The developers ask us to guide what we are creating. I appreciate that because our therapeutic jobs are unique and have special and specific needs that must be met. It has to be a solution tailored for us.

What is something you learned about technology as it relates to therapy that you did not know before?

I have learned so much about technology since I began working on Ambiki. I have learned how much goes into developing a software product. I now understand why there isn’t as much available SLP/OT/PT-specific tech. I’ve also learned how much manual work therapists do on a daily basis that could be solved with a platform like Ambiki. 😊
