Long description

Caregiver training’ refers to providing instruction and demonstration regarding intervention strategies. The aim of parent training is that parents become enabled to reproduce the predetermined intervention strategies in daily life at home. The relationship between professional and family members is a supportive instructor–learner interaction. ‘Caregiver coaching’ includes supporting family members in the process of decision making with the aim of family empowerment and optimizing child development. The ultimate goal is optimal participation of the child and family. In this collaborative and interactive process of decision making, the coaching strategies described by Rush et al. (2020) are used, including: joint planning, observation, action/practice, reflection, and reciprocal feedback. They are applied individually and flexibly as the result of the shared decision-making process. (Akhbari Ziegler & Hadders‐Algra, 2020; Friedman et al., 2012)
