Long description
Lori Overlund's Sensory-Motor Approach to Feeding focuses on the integration of sensory processing and motor skills in the context of eating and drinking. This approach is often used for children who have feeding difficulties, such as picky eating, aversions, or delays in developing feeding skills. Oral sensory-motor exercises and activities are used to help the child to develop the needed motor plans for specific feeding tasks (spoon feeding, straw and cup drinking, chewing) for safe, nutritive feedings. Once oral-motor skills of the oral phase of feeding have been acquired, sensory techniques and behavioral reinforcements can be used to expand the diet and increase food quantity.
